What Is ACCESS?

ACCESS Virtual Learning (Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators, and Students Statewide) is an initiative of the Alabama State Department of Education that expands educational opportunities for students across Alabama.

For more than 20 years, ACCESS has partnered with schools and districts to provide tuition-free, fully accredited online courses taught by Alabama-certified teachers.

Today, ACCESS serves more than 25,000 students in over 450 schools, supporting more than 39,000 course enrollments each year.

ACCESS helps schools provide learning opportunities that might not otherwise be available by offering courses in the following areas:

  • Advanced Placement (AP)
  • Career Preparedness
  • Career Technical Education (CTE)
  • Core Courses
  • Credit Recovery
  • Electives
  • Fine Arts
  • World Languages

Course availability, enrollment, scheduling, and the number of courses a student may take are determined by the student’s local school.
