ACCESS Teacher Requirements

ACCESS Virtual Learning teachers are part of a dedicated community of educators committed to student success, innovative instructional practices, and expanding learning opportunities for students across Alabama.

The ACCESS Policy Manual outlines teacher responsibilities and provides guidance for delivering high-quality web-based instruction (WBI). All ACCESS teachers are expected to review and follow ACCESS policies, understand student requirements, maintain regular communication with students and stakeholders, and adhere to all applicable procedures and expectations for their courses.

In addition to course-specific responsibilities, ACCESS teachers are expected to do the following:

  • Maintain an active presence in their courses and provide timely instruction, feedback, and communication to students
  • Monitor student progress and communicate concerns to facilitators, counselors, and support staff as needed
  • Follow ACCESS policies and procedures related to grading, academic integrity, student communication, and course management
  • Attend all monthly online faculty meetings
  • Participate in the annual summer Teacher Day professional development event by attending in person or completing the required online Teacher Day modules
  • Complete all required ACCESS professional development and training activities
  • Join and actively monitor the following Schoology groups:
    • Connecting ACCESS Staff & Teachers – Madison City (CAST-MC)
    • Connecting ACCESS Staff & Teachers – Alabama State Department of Education (CAST-ALSDE)

ACCESS teachers play a critical role in helping students achieve their academic goals through engaging instruction, meaningful feedback, and consistent support. We appreciate your commitment to providing high-quality online learning experiences for students throughout Alabama.
