Parent Information
Parents and guardians are valuable partners in the success of ACCESS students. Whether your student is taking their first online course or is an experienced virtual learner, your encouragement, support, and involvement can make a significant difference. The information below will help you stay informed, monitor your student's progress, and access the resources available to support their success in ACCESS Virtual Learning courses.
-
If your student is new to ACCESS Virtual Learning, the following steps can help you support them as they begin their online learning journey:
- Speak with your student's school counselor about ACCESS course options.
- Confirm your student has received ACCESS Schoology login credentials.
- Ensure your student completes Student Orientation in each ACCESS course.
- Help your student establish a routine for completing coursework and meeting deadlines.
- Monitor grades and progress regularly.
- Communicate with your student's teacher, facilitator, counselor, or ACCESS Support Center when questions or concerns arise.
-
ACCESS does not provide separate parent login credentials. However, parents may review course content and grades using their student's ACCESS Schoology account. Students receive their ACCESS login credentials from their school facilitator or counselor and access their courses through the ACCESS Schoology platform at accessvl.schoology.com.
Parents may also monitor student grades through their local PowerSchool account under "Grades from Other School Districts" and may request progress reports through their local school.
-
Parents can support their students in a variety of ways, including the following:
- Encouraging consistent participation and completion of coursework
- Monitoring grades and academic progress regularly
- Asking students about their coursework and learning experiences
- Reviewing completed and submitted assignments with their student
- Ensuring technology and Internet access are functioning properly when students work from home
- Supporting compliance with local school and ACCESS expectations
- Encouraging students to communicate regularly with their ACCESS teacher and facilitator
- Helping students stay on pace with assignments and deadlines
- Communicating with the school, facilitator, or ACCESS Support Center when questions or concerns arise
-
Parents and guardians are required to review and sign the Student Acknowledgement Form along with their student. By signing the form, both the student and parent/guardian acknowledge that they have reviewed and understand ACCESS expectations, procedures, and requirements. The completed form should be returned to the student's school counselor or facilitator and will be maintained on file at the local school.
Parents are encouraged to review the ACCESS Policy Manual and the Alabama State Department of Education’s ACCESS webpage with their student and discuss the importance of academic integrity, communication, participation, and meeting course deadlines. A strong partnership between students, parents, schools, and ACCESS staff helps create a successful online learning experience.
-
Parents are encouraged to maintain regular communication with their student's school counselor, facilitator, and ACCESS teacher if concerns develop regarding academic performance, pacing, attendance, or course participation.
Parents are also welcome to attend virtual Parent Meetings hosted by the Madison Regional Support Center to learn more about the ACCESS program and available support services.
If parents need to contact an ACCESS teacher, teacher contact information can be found in the course syllabus located within the Course Information section of each ACCESS course.
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your student's ACCESS Support Center.
