ACCESS Courses

ACCESS Virtual Learning offers rigorous online courses for public and private school students in grades 6–12 throughout Alabama. ACCESS provides all courses required to meet Alabama high school diploma requirements while also expanding opportunities for students to take advanced and specialized courses that may not be available at their local school.

  • ACCESS offers over 140 high school and middle school courses during the academic year. Summer middle school and high school courses are also available, depending on demand.

For detailed information about these courses, including course descriptions, required materials, and NCAA compliance, please consult the ACCESS Course Catalogue.

  • ACCESS online Advanced Placement (AP) courses are taught by Alabama-certified, AP-trained teachers and are designed to reflect introductory college-level coursework. Students have access to 11 AP courses through ACCESS and may earn college credit based on their AP Exam scores.

Students must register for and take AP Exams through their local school. AP courses designated by an asterisk (*) require online textbooks (e-texts) or other supplementary materials. Students should consult their school counselor regarding the purchase of these materials.

  • ACCESS Credit Recovery courses are available to Alabama public school students in grades 9–12 and are based on the same content standards as the corresponding traditional courses. Each learning module begins with a pretest designed to measure student mastery. Students who score 70% or higher may advance to the next module, while students scoring below 70% must complete the instructional coursework and activities for that module.

Local LEAs determine student eligibility and how grades earned in Credit Recovery courses are applied in accordance with state and local policies. Please note: ACCESS Credit Recovery courses are not accepted by the NCAA for eligibility purposes.
