Student Information

Whether you are preparing to take your first ACCESS course or supporting a student enrolled in ACCESS, the resources below will help you understand expectations, access support services, and make the most of the online learning experience.

  • Welcome to ACCESS Virtual Learning! Whether you're taking your first online course or exploring new educational opportunities, the steps below will help you get started and prepare for a successful learning experience.

    • Talk to your school counselor.
    • Enroll through your school.
    • Receive Schoology credentials.
    • Complete Student Orientation.
    • Begin coursework.
    • Communicate regularly with your teacher and facilitator.
    • Monitor grades and stay on pace.
  • Students receive their login credentials from their school-assigned facilitator(s) and access their courses through the ACCESS instance of Schoology at accessvl.schoology.com.

If prompted to select a school when logging in, students should choose ACCESS Virtual Learning, Montgomery, AL, not their home school.

  • All students must first complete Student Orientation in each ACCESS course to see the course materials. Orientation introduces students to course and system navigation, assignment submission, teacher communication, feedback review, grade monitoring, and other essential online learning skills. Orientation materials remain available throughout the course for future reference.

  • Student Responsibilities

ACCESS students are expected to do the following:

    • Follow all ACCESS policies outlined in the ACCESS Policy Manual
    • Follow course expectations and requirements described in the course syllabus
    • Stay on pace with assignments and deadlines outlined in the course pacing guide and ACCESS calendar
    • Engage in coursework daily
    • Review course updates regularly for announcements, assignment information, and additional instructions
    • Ask questions when the course content is not understood
    • Complete their own work
    • Communicate with teachers through Schoology Messages and respond promptly to teacher communications and requests for information.
  • As an ACCESS Virtual Learning student, you and your parent/guardian are required to review and sign the Student Acknowledgement Form. By signing this form, you agree to follow all ACCESS expectations, procedures, and requirements. Once completed, the form should be returned to your school counselor or facilitator and will be kept on file at your school.

Academic Integrity expectations are introduced during Student Orientation and reinforced throughout your ACCESS courses. To be successful, you should communicate regularly with your ACCESS teacher and facilitator, stay engaged in your coursework, and follow all course and program expectations.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact your ACCESS Support Center or explore the Alabama State Department of Education ACCESS Virtual Learning website and the ACCESS Policy Manual.
